My Grandson Could Not See Out Of One Eye. Is He Having Amblyopia?

My 5 year old grandson was seen by his pediatric doctor today after the school had said he was unable to see out of one eye. My grandson said he has always seen that way....he only sees color out of that eye. The pediatric doctor test him at he is 2500 out of that eye. They have an appointment tomorrow morning with a pediatric opthomoligist. I have been looking this up and I have found he may have amblyopia? It can be treated simply? I can' afford to pay for this answer.

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
It seems from the history that your grandson is having poor vision in one eye.
First thing to be done is evaluation of the affected eye to find out the cause for low vision in that eye. The common causes are refractive error or congenital problems like cataract...
Ambylopia is seen when two eyes have different vision leading to underdevelopment of the eye with low vision.
Ambylopia in this age can be effectively treated by using occlusion therapy after correction of the underlying problem if any in the affected eye.
Hence no need to worry do consult your pediatric ophthalmologist for examination and treatment accordingly.

Thank you
