My father has black tongue, Why this change in color is happening ?
My father has a peculiar problem. From one year his tongue is becoming black in color. Why this change in color is happening ?. He do not have any other problem. But he smokes one pack of cigars perday. We told hime to stop but he is not listening
Smoking leads to staining of teeth and other structures of the oral cavity. Smoking lead to Smokers melanosis which is a dark brown pigmentation of the mucosa of the oral cavity. Please advise your father to brush his tongue with a tongue scraper and visit a dentist.
Hi! blackening of tongue in smokers is a very common occurence. The condition can be smoker's melanosis (a condition in which the melanin pigmentation of the tongue's surface increases giving it a brownish or black appearance). The condition can also be Hairy tongue. The diagnosis depends on the exact appearance of the tongue and whether the layer is scrapable or not. At times the condition resolves with discontinuation of smoking habit, as it might be the trigger. Do consult a nearby dentist for exact diagnosis. Maintain proper oral hygiene but do not try to scrape off the layer as it may induce bleeding. Take care.
the primary cause of tongue coloration due to external factors like smoking ,,guthka etc is growth of pappila on tongue surface due to insufficient oral hygiene ,,,
the patient needs to scrape his tongue alongside brushing the teeth thorughly but making sure he doesnt overdo it cause it can be injurious
secondly prevent smoking guthka etc
can use hydrogen peroxide mothwashes
through oral hygiene with tongue cleaning is most important
both side to side as well up n down motions with a simple tooth paste n brush is more than enough twice daily
initially u can advise him for three times after taking food
any problems mail me firstname.lastname@example.org
Your father has a black tongue which could be mainly because of smoking however there are other causes of discolored tongue such as certain food substances, bad oral hygiene. in your father's case the cause looks to be mostly because of smoking as the amount you mentioned is enough to cause the discoloration. I would advise you to ask your father to slowly and gradually quit smoking as it is not only bad for oral health but for his general health as well. The tongue can be clenaed using a tongue cleaner but do not apply excessive force to do so. In case you have any other queries please feel free to conatct me at +91-7838386006.

I have been living with a disease for a year and a half. The doctors haven t been able to see anything wrong based upon lab results, but my body has changed. First, I had bumps on the back of my tongue then the red bumps or rather small knots flattened out and my tongue had white patches then my entire mouth and tongue began to feel different. Now it feels gummy, my tongue looks different in my opinion. I can barely feel my teeth with my tongue. Then my lips scabbed black and eventually the shape changed. When I would close my eyes, strange things would happen. Also my genitals changed, my vagina and anus and my Chest had a rash. Now I still have the changes in my mouth and genitals. I tested negative. Because doctors don t know how my body looked before, they think this is all psychological, please help.
I ve had a issue with my tongue for several months. Heat, redness on the tip and on both sides of the tongue it s reddish/purple in color. No pain when I eat or drink, just my concern of why and what it is. I have had my dentist check for cancer and a PA at my primary doctor office. They seem to think it s nothing I should worry about. I have had problems with indigestion so the PA gave me three weeks worth of sample Nexium to take and see if this might help. I m now on my third week and it hasn t changed.

Hello, I will occassionally get a lump and dark spot on the right side of my tongue . Always in the same spot it seems to last for a day or two and then go away. I can catch it by running my tongue through my teeth but it is embedded in my tongue and gives like a purple cast to that area. normally it is more of an annoyance than anything but this time it kind of hurts. I am wondering if it is a cyst or a blood clot? Do i make an appointment to go to my doctor, dentist , or just wait for it to go away?
Hi I m actually inquiring about my husbands symptoms. He is 47 years old, hasn t smoked cigarettes for 2 years now, but was a heavy smoker for many years before he quit. He is a heavy beer drinker, probably drinks an average of 12 beers 4 to 6 days a week. He also has extensive dental problems including cavities and gum disease. His symptoms include a bad burning sensation on his tongue when he eats or drinks anything which has persisted for about 2 to 3 weeks now. Today he discovered a lump or bulge in his tongue on the left side. From what I m reading, there is cause for concern about oral cancer .
