Most Important Part Of An Emergency Cricothyratomy?

I am a healthcare simulation design engineer and I will be designing a new cricothyrotomy simulator. What is the most important part of practicing an emergency cricothyratomy? What does real cricoid cartalage feel like when being penatrated with either a scalpel or syringe? Thanks

Hello,

Incising the cricothyroid membrane will be the most important step. It is nothing but a tough sheet connecting thyroid and cricoid cartilage. It is the cricothyroid membrane is penetrated not the cricoid.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
