Just Recently Diagnosed With Acquired Hallux Rigidus In The Big

Just recently diagnosed with acquired hallux rigidus in the big left toe. I'm very active-scared of the down time for the surgery that was suggested-(fusion)? Have been reading on line regarding different stages of this condition. Right now-I can still walk-run, hike etc.. Yes-it hurts BAD-but not constantly. Are there any alternatives to somewhat control the toe pain with out further damage. I also have a ganglion cyst-that was determined by Dr. just by YYYY@YYYY ontop of the big toe joint. Thanks in advance for any insight.
