Is Vertigo A Matter Of Concern While Suffering From Osteoporosis?
Hi I have been suffering with some vertigo the past 6 days. The first day I was really sick and the room was spinning. The next day I felt better and did my gardening. Monday am I woke with spinning again and got up slowly and walked sideways almost falling over. I am still having some dizzy spells especially when I bend over and when I look up. I called my care provider and cannot get in to see her until the first part of July. I said I could be dead by that time. I explained what was going on. They didn't seem too concerned. I was wondering if I should cut down my calcium and d3? I was diagnosed in April with some Osteoporosis on my left hip. My left ear or that side of my head seems to be the worse. Should I be concerned or just wait it out awhile to see if I get better? Thank you soooooooo much!
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Osteoporosis is due to decrease in the bone density (common cause is aging and menopause). Take calcium supplements in your diet along with minerals like magnesium and vitamin D. The spinning or dizziness is due to Vertigo, an inner ear pathology. You need to visit an ENT surgeon, get physically examined and get investigations along with audiometry done. In the meantime take Vertin for relief. Avoid driving and get treated without delay.
