Is Thyroid Level Being 3.63 Too High For A Child?

Hi there, My daughter has had some recent blood work as she has been suffering from random vomitting (not food - mucus) and then feeling abdominal pain for a day. This happens every few months and she can t go to school. Her blood work was fine; however, her thyroid is 3.63 and she is generally fatigued although we have her active in sports. My thyroid is under 2 and has been all my life. Is this 3.63 elevated for a 9-10 year old girl?

Hello Madam,

Welcome to Health Care Magic. I understand your concern.

You didn't specify which thyroid hormone level is 3.63.
In order to evaluate thyroid gland function, your daughter has to perform full TFT (thyroid function tests). A TFT panel typically includes thyroid hormones such as thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH, thyrotropin) and thyroxine (T4), and triiodothyronine (T3) depending on local laboratory policy.
As you concern, in hyperthyroidism the symptoms include Excessive sweating, Heat intolerance, Increased bowel movements, Nervousness
, Rapid heart rate, Weight loss, Fatigue, Decreased concentration etc.
If i was your daughters treating doctor, I would firstly evaluate the above tests in order to give you a more precise answer and diagnosis.
Let me show you the normal values of these tests:
- Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) 0.5–5.0 μIU/mL
- Free Thyroxine (T 4 ) 0.9–2.4 ng/dL
- Triiodothyronine (T 3 ) 70–195 ng/dL

Hope I was able to help you.If you have further queries please fell free to write again

Take care,
Dr. Ina Zaimi
