Is Thickening Of Upper Heart Valve A Cause For Concern?

Hi I occasionally suffer from Afib, the first time it happened I went to the hospital and they zapped me back into rythim. I never got it again for about 1 1/2 years when I did it lasted around 8 hours. my doctor put me on Eliquis. I am also taking Benicar for high blood pressure. I work out at the gym about 3 to 4 times a week for an hour each time. but for some reason every two to three months I get the afib and it lasts for around 35 to 45 minutes. my heart rate goes to around 170 BPM. I have had stress testing done with MRI and my heart they say looks great slight thickening of the upper valve. why out of the blue do I get this. my doctor doesent seem to know what to tell me except try to relax and get through it. any thoughts? Regards Frank

Hello,

Atrial fibrilation is the most common among cardiac arrhythmias and have a variety of causes, like hypertension, valvular problems, hiperthyroidism, extensive alchool intake, pulmonary disease ect or without any known origin.

So you have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, and you should continue taking eliquis and probably a beta blocker or another antiarrhythmic mad like propafenone to better control the cardiac rate and make the episodes of afib fewer.

You should see your doctor or a cardiologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
