Is The Bilateral Mastectomy Done By Oncologist Or Plastic Surgeon?

I have DCIS breast cancer in one breast that is in the same breast as a cancer 20 years ago so cannot do another lumpectomy. Plan to have bilateral mastectomy without reconstruction. Am 63 years old, in otherwise excellent health. Is it best to have the surgery done by a general oncology surgeon or a surgeon who is also a plastic surgeon. I want the scarring to look as less gruesome as possible but don t want the lengthy reconstruction process.

Oncologist, Surgical 's  Response
The most important thing while undergoing a mastectomy (unilateral/bilateral) is that all the breast tissue is removed. Then comes the cosmetic outcome. Hence it is very important that you undergo the surgery by an Onco-surgeon and not a plastic surgeon. If any breast tissue is left behind then the whole purpose of the surgery is lost. Since breast reconstruction is not a consideration, the decision is pretty simple.
