Is Taking A Calcium Supplement Necessary While On Thyronorm?

Hi Doctor, i have been prescribed thyronorm 50 mg, earlier i used to have lower back pain, after thyroid treatment the pain eased, however doctor recommended calcium tablets too, i am not having calcium tablets , is it mandatory to have calcium tablet in the night while one is taking thyronorm in the morning?

Hi,

Routinely there is no need for calcium and vitamin D therapy in patients who are being treated for hypothyroidism but I would suggest the women who are at high risk for osteoporosis like thin built, poor calcium intake in the diet, postmenopausal, etc.

Its advisable to use calcium along with Calcirol. In your case, I suggest continuing the same dose of Eltroxin along with Shelcal and Calcirol.
