Is Taking Ibuprofen Advisable While On Metoprolol And Eliquis?

I am taking Eliquis because if previous clots and a genetic clotting factor. After surgery to repair a broken bone, I was prescribed ibuprophren for pain. I see that this interacts negatively with Metoprolol (also prescribed) and with Eliquis. What can I take for pain?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I agree with you that ibuprofen interacts with metoprolol. But this interaction is only if both these drugs are taken for a longer period.

The only effect after these drugs are taken together is that the blood pressure lowering effect of metoprolol is reduced.

So you can take ibuprofen if it is not for a longer period. And if ibuprofen has to be taken for more than a week then the dose of metoprolol can be adjusted after consulting your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
