Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Taking Bisoprolol Fumarate Along With Venlafaxine Safe?
Is there any possible interaction between Bisoprolol fumarate 2.5 mg dose daily and venlafaxine 37.5 mg three times daily? Also can bisoprolol cause low sodium in the blood? I know that venlafaxine can contribute to that. I take both and feel I have little energy lately. I am female and 73 years old in very good health overall.
There is no documented harmful interactions between these two hence they may be taken as prescribed. Bisoprolol is a heart-selective beta blocker commonly prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure and other heart diseases. Its common side effects include low heart beats, low blood pressure, fatigue, cough and difficulty in breathing. It does not decrease sodium levels. Venlafaxine is an antidepressant commonly prescribed for the treatment of depression, painful nerve conditions and other diseases. It can cause low sodium and low potassium levels as some of the side effects.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
