Is Switching From Inderal To Dyazide Safe?

My Dr has just changed my bo med from inderal tabs 20 mg , Norvasc 5mg to norvasc 10 mg and dysziide because my resting heart rate was too low and bp was not as low as he would like. Is this a safe change. I had been in dyazide and inderal LA 80mg for 39+ yrs and my bp was up again.

Hi,

Inderal is a betablocker. If your heart rate was too low, then, we should not use a betablocker which can reduce heart rate more. This explains why your doctor changed from Inderal to Dyazide. Dyazide on contrary is a diuretic, won't affect heart rate.

It will try to reduce your blood pressure through eliminating water. You should monitor your blood electrolytes more often as related deficiencies might occur. Next, Norvasc dose has been raised in order to reduce blood pressure which is tending to keep high.

I advise to observe changes in your legs as edema might occur. Report to your caring doctor once you notice edema. He/she will change therapy again.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
