Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How do you decide whether to switch from esbriet to ofev? My pulmonologist is researching. I have done well lung wise but have to a moderate level many of the side effects on esbriet (taking 8 tablets a day not 9). Ihavve had substantial weight loss, fatigue, nausea and some itching and heart burn. My doc says enzyme composition different for Ofev. The lower number of pills and total milligrams is appealing.
The latest trial results also touched on the combo’s effectiveness. They showed that the combo slowed IPF patients’ decline in lung function better than Ofev alone.
but more combination trials are needed .
both drugs having different mechanism of action.
advantages of ofev are
less dose
both drugs don't make much difference in adverse effects
trials found esbriet is more effective than ofev.
trials going on for combined therapy.
for changing the drug you must have a consultation with pulmonologist.
change of drug depends on individual response to the drug and adverse effects patients going to suffer.
