Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is it normal for my forehead to swell after a scalp biopsy that was close to the hairline? The dermatologist told me it does not appear to be infected and has removed the stiches to alleviate any discomfort. my temperature is 99.8 and I am taking antibiotics (augmenten) The procedure was performed on Thursday am and my forehead is still swollen. My doctor said he had never seen anything like this in his 30 years, I would hate to go to ER if not necessary. Please help.
A biopsy is a minor procedure which should not really cause such trouble, but if not properly prepped and especially as the location was close to the hairline, there could be a chance of an infection. I do agree with your doctor tif he thinks it does ot look like an infection, as he should be able to visually tell if it infected or not.
But I would still recommend either a change in the antibiotic, a small procedure involving incision and drainage or both. Please discuss these options with your treating doctor.
Best wishes.
