Is Swelling In The Lower Legs A Matter Of Concern?

I am a 64 yr. old female, 5'3" tall, weighing 220 lbs. For the past few months my feet, ankles, and lower calves are noticeably swollen. When I wake up in the morning, the swelling has lessened considerably but comes back immediately upon standing. I take Eliquis for AFib, metoprolol succinate, sertraline for OCD, and trazodone to sleep at night. I've also been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and use a bipap machine at night. I am pre-diabetic and, unfortunately, drink far too much Coke. My mother lived to 96 years and died of natural causes, and for years her lower legs and feet were swollen and purple. Is this just poor circulation (I'm a teacher and on my feet all day) or something more serious? My cardiologist looked at the swelling 2 months ago and saw no "pitting" so didn't put me on a diuretic.

Hi,

Pitting edema needs diuretic and it is due to cardiopulmonary disease. If this is not the cardiolpulmoary disease, pitting edema is not due to retention of fluid so no need for diuretic. If this is the edema due to anemia, one needs iron therapy and not the diuretic. You can discuss this with your cardiologist.

Hope I have answered your query.
