Is Surgery Recommended For Large Fistula In Mouth Caused After Tooth Removal?

Female, 73, large fistula due to extraction of last top tooth 3 1/2 mo ago. Severe sinus infection and pain ensued. surgery proposed by ENT. What is the % of success in this procedure? I have auto immune disease-Ankylosing spondylitis, diabetes and emphysema. Am very nervous and leery regarding surgery, but have found no other alternative. Are there any Dentists or oral surgeons available? Thank you

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms it seems that you have an Oro- Antral Fistula causing communications between mouth and sinus leading to Sinusitis..
If the infection and inflammation in sinus is severe and painful and does not resolve by Medication like antibiotics and Anti-inflammatory painkiller along with other remedies like Steroid and saline nasal sprays etc then surgery is advised..

It will be done only after you treating doctor for the medical conditions confirms the fitness..
Once the fitness is achieved Surgery can be done as it will relieve your Sinusitis and also the Fistula will be closed..

So I would advise you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and if he also advise the same then you can proceed with the surgery..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
