Is Surgery Only Solution For Mouth Breathing And Blocked Nose?
I have seen an ent to get my tonsils removed, during her examination she noticed my nasal passages were small and causing me jaw pain from always breathing through my mouth. She put me on flonaise to see if that would help but it has not she has mentioned surgery and I was curious as to the name of the surgery and what would take place
Hello, Thanks for posting your query here. Your complaints sound like you have been having nasal blockage and congestion for quite sometime. Tonsils need to be removed if they are getting infected often or if they cause obstgructive apnoea at night. Nasal congestion are usually due to enlarged turbinates which are seen as pink fleshy masses from outside. If I were your treating doctor,I would have advised a nasal endoscopy and CT scan of nose and sinuses to diagnose exactly what is causing the problem. Remnant adenoid tissues have also to be treated. The nasal spray you mentioned will reduce the nasal inflammation and improve airway. If sprays are not giving satisfactory results, better to go for surgery to address the pathology, usually coblator assisted submucosal turbinectomy gives very good results.
