Is Surgery Necessary For Flared Up Inguinal Hernia In A Heart Patient?

I have an inguinal(?) hernia, and a heart patient ( CABGx3 in November). the hernia was discovered in December, and flaired up a week ago. My Dr has put me in for a surgery referal, it is NOT strangulated. How urgent is this and what would be the normal sign off period for my cardiologist AND general physician?

Hello,

The asymptomatic hernia without symptoms does not require any surgery. The symptomatic hernia with obstruction (even without strangulation) requires surgery with calculated risk in a heart patient as well. Kindly discuss the calculated risk and benefits of the procedure with your doc and proceed for the surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
