Is Sore Throat Along With Fatigue And Red Eyes A Matter Of Concern?

My son has a sore throat, fatigue, loss of appetite, cough, red eyes, red itchy spots appeared this evening. Had a throat culture last Thursday and I assume that he does not have strep because the doctor did not call me back after I left a message inquiring about his throat culture. Should I be concerned?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Most of the throat infections are of viral origin, but only 20% are bacterial in origin. He may be suffering from acute viral pharyngitis with rash. Need salt water gargling thrice a day for 5 days. Avoid cool drinks and chilled water. Use water vapour inhalation thrice a day for 5 days. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
