Is Sore Head With Big Bump After An Accident A Serious Issue?
I fell down some wooden stairs on Saturday night and hit my left temple pretty hard. I have a very sore bump that hasn't bruised yet. I can't open my mouth very wide to eat because it just kills my temple. Do I need to see a doctor??
I am not nauseous nor do I have blurry vision or anything like that. Just a very sore head with a big bump
I can understand your concern. It is good that you don't have complaints like vomiting, visual blurring or nausea. Headache with swelling at injury site is normal and not serious if there are no alarming signs of head injury which are : vomiting : bleed through nose/ear/throat : seizures : onset of new focal deficit : loss of consciousness or decreasing consciousness : memory deficit If you don't have any of above signs, then do not worry.
Pain during opening mouth is due to stretching of skin and injured temporalis muscle. It will subside with painkiller like Diclofenac sodium which you can take after proper prescription. You can apply icepacks at swelling. Keep your head at higher level, swelling will decrease.
Thanks. Hope it will help you. Take care.
