General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your son seem to be related to shingles.
To answer your questions:
- Recovery time may need several weeks
- Shingles itself is not contagious but the virus that cause shingles might also cause varicella which is contagious
- He can get shingles again because the virus remains in system
- He can get vaccinated to help prevent in the future shingles

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
