Is Severe Yeast On Skin A Symptom Of HIV?

I have been with my SO for 4 years. Recently we found out his previous girlfriend is HIV positive. After finding this out we both took the Oraquick swab tests at home and both were negative. We are not sure if she was positive while in a 2 year relationship with my SO. Then I had a biopsy test done I my dermatologist office due to constant itchy skin. The results came back as there is allot of yeast on my skin. She mentioned that this is common in HIV positive patients. I almost vomited after hearing that after taking the Oraquick test. How accurate are the at home tests?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HIV screening is done by ELISA test and confirmation is done by Western blot test. HIV test reactivity depends upon development of antibodies against HIV. Sometime it develops early, but sometimes it takes time to develop. Post exposure testing is done initially and at six weeks, three months, and six months. After six months, if it still comes non – reactive then you will be declared HIV negative.
Home based test Oraquick test is not reliable. Please go to hospital or pathology laboratory where HIV screening is done. Your doctor is right. Yeast infection such as candidiasis is very common in HIV positive patients, but it can also occur in non-HIV positive patients. So, first get confirmation of HIV status. Further action will be taken after result. For skin yeast infection, you can apply locally ketoconazole ointment every 8 hours. It will cure yeast infection.
