Is Pregnancy Possible While Breastfeeding?

I just had my baby in September and I waited a little over the 40 days to have sex again, because I am breastfeeding I didnt use any kind of protection but as I’ve been reading people do tend to get pregnant while breastfeeding. So my question is Can I be pregnant again? I had sex in November and I bleed a bit the day after and it was light blood that lasted 4 days. Then I’m December I’m guessinf I got my period. But now I’m having symptoms I had when I had my first baby. I have a bad cold, i’m Throwing up and extremely nauseous, I have body aches, especially my back but I did get epidural so I’m not sure if it’s from that, also bad headache. I don’t know if it’s a stomach flu mixed with a cold or if I’m pregnant I’m not sure when my next period date is because it’s irregular due to breastfeeding. Has anyone gotten pregnant while breastfeeding? What were the symptoms?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is definitely possible to get pregnant while breast feeding. Since you are experiencing very vague symptoms, I recommend getting a home pregnancy testing done to rule out pregnancy. It is important to use contraception even while breast feeding. Mini pills, IUD and condoms are best choices for contraception while breast feeding.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
