Is Pregnancy Possible If Pill Is Taken After 12 Hours Of Unprotected Sex?

I have been on the depo injection for approx 9 years, I was due for a shot on 31.05.2013 and havent had it due to family loss etc and been very busy and stressed out, I had sex on Friday 05.07.2013 early hours and I took the morning after pill approx 12 hours later, what is the likelihood of me being pregnant?

Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
You can safely consider that you are not protected against pregnancy from the Depo shot.
That is since you did not have the due shot .
The morning after pill or emergency contraceptive pill ( ECP ) provides almost 95 % protection against pregnancy.
The earlier it is taken , the better.
SInce you took it within 12 hours of unprotected sex, you are most reasonably protected against pregnancy.
So do not worry.
You have not mentioned the date of your last menstrual period.
If you had unprotected sex around the dates of your ovulation, that might reduce the efficacy of your ECP.
Right now nothing more can be done.
Just take a pregnancy test 4 weeks after unprotected sex.
Even if you have your normal period do that, because the ECP can induce withdrawal bleeding at any stage.
All the best
Take care.
