Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Being On Birth Control?
Hello Doctor!
I am a 32 years of age and have 1 fallopian and 1 ovary. I have the birth control Nexplanon inserted now for the duration of the 3 years( expired 01/2016). This is my second insertion and for this one, I've had a cycle every month. My fiancée and I are trying for another child. For the past couple of weeks I've been having severe pregnancy symptoms and my cycle does not return until February 3rd. Am I over thinking it or should I be patient and wait another week or so before I take a pregnancy test?

Yes pregnancy is possible despite birth control methods such as Nexplanton, especially when it is near expiry. There is no method of contraception in this world which is 100% effective.
The failure rate of nexplanton is high when it is near expiry. This is due to lack of hormone etonogestrel released in blood. I would suggest you to do a pregnancy test now as you are having delayed periods along with pregnancy symptoms.
A home pregnancy kit can be used for it. Use first urine sample of morning to give reliable results.
Refer to a gynaecologist, for removal of nexlanton if you are pregnant
