Is Positive Result In RSV Test Of An Infant A Cause For Concern?

My daughter is 3 weeks and 2 days old. I took her to local childrens hospital earlier today. She was tested for flu and RSV. They sent us home and said to use saline solution in her nose and keep it suctioned and would call me within 4 hours with results. They called and said RSV test was positive. I can not reach her pediatrician, should she be returned to hospital? Please help

Hi,
Dont get panic. First confirm from them which test they have done - RSV is Respiratory Syncitial Virus - Whether its a PCR or serological test (Antibody detection
). This virus causes respiratory tract infections in all age population. Decision to return to hospital will be based on following reasons -
1. Is your daughter premature born ?
2. Whether frequency and quantity of taking feeds reduced ?
3. Is there fever or hypothermia(low temperature) ?
