Is Pain In The Chest Radiating To The Jaw Connected With Stomach Problems?

I seem to be having a pain in my chest that radiates to my jaw. I have had it before but in the past it seemed to come on quickly and pass quickly. Today when it was coming on I could tell what was about to happen so I drank some water to try to prevent it . In the past that seemed to help. Today however it didn t help much and it lasted for about 30 mins. I am having an endoscopy (?) on my stomach because I am having a problem with swallowing. Does this sound like something I should be overly concerned about or do you think it is most likely related to my stomach issue. Thanks, Kathy Sharpness

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Kathy,
Thank you for asking your question at health care magic.

Before I can give a definite answer I need to know more about your swallowing difficulty.Certain esophageal conditions present with chest pain.

How ever, chest pain radiating to jaw ,brings up the concern of cardiac cause.
I also would like to know more about your risk factors for coronary artery disease like age, gender, weight, hypertension, diabetics mellitus , hypercholestrolemia, family history of cardiac disease, history of medications used, history of peripheral vascular disease etc.

I suggest that you need to go the emergency room since the pain lasted for almost 30 minutes and get an EKG done as an initial evaluation.Meanwhile take two 75 mg aspirin tablets ,if available at home.

Hope I was able to help you
Regards,
Dr.Lekshmi
