Is Pain In Hip Radiating To Back And Abdomen During Urination A Cause For Concern?

Thanks for taking the time to help me out. I have pain emanating above my hip on the right side of my back. The pain migrates from my back to the front on the right side of my abdomen. It only seems to occur when I have to urinate and the pain then subsides. Further, when I urinate the urine causes foamy bubbles after hitting the water. I would like to know if this is something I should be concerned about. I am a white male 72. Years old. I thank you again for this courtesy.

Hello,

The symptoms can be due to a urinary tract infection. In that case there will be pain on urination, foamy urine and there can be fever, chills and lower abdominal pain. The other possibility is migrating stone seen in the urinary tract which causes similar type of radiating pain. In both cases you should get a urine routine and microscopy done and see whether there are pus cells and red blood cells in urine. You should also get a ultrasound abdomen done to assess the size of the stone if present.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
