Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 69 year old woman who recently had an episode of Afib. My resting heart rate is mid-50’s. Is this something to be concerned about? Also I am working a temporary job that requires exertion and my heart rate is often in the low 100’s while working. Jan you give some guidelines so I will know if thehewrt rate is in a danger level? Also, I was prescribed a blood thinner but had reactions from it, including dizziness one day and nausea most other days I used it (for about 2 and a half weeks. I stopped taking it and went to baby aspirin. My next cardiologist appointment is tomorrow. Thank you.
The blood thinner is very important in a patient who has had episodes of atrial fibrillation, have your age and is a female. Aspirin does not protect you. If you were my patient I would suggest you another blood thinner, meanwhile, you can take enoxaparin 6000ui/sc twice a day until getting oral blood thinner. You should have a 24 -48 hours Holter ECG monitoring to see your heart rate during day and night and to see if you only have episodes of atrial fibrillation or another disease called sick sinus syndrome. I think 55 it's a low heart rate for a patient with atrial fibrillation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Anila Skenderi
