My daughter in college just went to doctor and has UTI. She has let the pain drag on for two months and finally went to doctor. Doctor said if she wasn't better in 24 hours she will have to get kidney drained. I'm worried. Will she be okay. Is draining kidney serious?
Hello and welcome to HCM. Your concern is understandable. As an Urologist, i wonder why your daughter was reluctant to consult a doctor for 2 months. UTI can cause serious complications of the kidneys. Initially,a trial of antibiotics is tried, with close monitoring of the kidney function and ultrasound scanning. After 24-48 hours, if improvement is not seen and fluid drainage is necessary, it must be done, to prevent further deterioration. You can contact me by name, if needed. Hope your daughter has a speedy recovery.
