Hi,

Oral contraceptive pills (OCP) are commonly used in the treatment of patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). They include predictable cyclic menses, reduce luteinizing hormone (LH) secretion and thus lower ovarian androgen production; the estrogen component increases sex hormone binding globulin, thus reducing free androgens. Most people use the pill to treat PCOS. A combination pill containing estrogen and progestin is the best choice.

The hormones in this type of pill work to prevent ovulation, decrease ovarian cyst, decrease the hormone related side effects like acne, excessive hair growth etc from PCOS. Unfortunately, there is no permanent cure for PCOS, but overweight and obese women can help balance their hormone levels by losing weight. Otherwise, treatment is aimed at managing symptoms. A wide range of treatment options can help prevent any potential problems, boost the chance of conception and lead a normal life style.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
