Is It Safe To Use Albuterol Inhaler During Pregnancy?

My girlfriend was diagnosed with bronchitis (sort of-long story, ER she went to was sub-par) and was given an albuterol inhalor. A couple weeks later, she found out she was pregnant. She was having some tightness in her chest, and was worried abuot using the inhalor. Is she okay using the inhalor? If not, is there anything that you could recommend us trying to relieve her tightness

Hello,

Yes, you can use it because Albuterol considered a preferred medicine for the treatment of asthma during pregnancy. Albuterol (also called salbutamol) is a medication used for the treatment of asthma. It is in a class of medications called beta2-agonists (β2-agonists). β2-agonists are bronchodilators, meaning that they help to open the airways in the lungs. Albuterol used in fast-acting inhalers for the treatment of asthma.

When albuterol inhaled very limited amounts of the drug enter the blood, and even less expected to reach the developing baby. The amount of reaching a developing baby expected to be insignificant. There is no risk for birth defects with the use of inhaled albuterol during pregnancy. So she can continue using that.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
