Is It Safe To Undergo Lasik Surgery While Suffering From Hashimoto S Disease?

I just went for a consult for LASIK surgery. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto s disease 2 months ago was put on meds (synthroid) and had blood work done and levels are normal. The eye doctor was a little hesitant because hashimotos is an anti immune disease and my healing for LASIK could be compromised. What are your thoughts.

Hello there. Noted the contents. The doctor is right when he said that autoimmune disease play a negative role in healing but that is mostly with collagen vascular diseases like SLE etc. There is no concrete evidence in the case of hashimotos except that fact that it is autoimmune as well. 2 months of hashimotos in my opinion will not have an effect on the tissues of the eye. Get your thyroid levels under control and discuss in detail about the pros and cons with your doc. Then you can make the final call. Wishing you health. Take care.
