Is It Safe To Taper Off 10mg Roseday?
My wife is taking Roseday 10 tablet once daily in the morning. Her doctor prescribed it 2 years back and she did not know why it was advised. I checked from her medical file no Blood Cholesterol exam was done and no report was made. She had some discomfort and uneasy in walking and was having hypertension and thyroid problem.Medicines for both this problem were advised and along with Roseday-10, these medicines are also being continued till now.Hypertension and TSH exam/tests are done periodically, but no test so far done on Blood Cholesterol. My querstion is , if she can discintinue or slowly taper off and stop taking Roseday-10, or take lower dose such as Roseday -5 or in alternate days?

Roseday 10 mg tablet contains rosuvastatin which belongs to the group of medications known as statins is used to lower cholesterol and to reduce the risk of heart disease. Cholesterol is a fatty substance that bluids up in the blood vessels and causes their narrowing which may lead to a heart attack or a stroke. Your wife usually have to continue taking Roseday for life because if she stop taking them, her cholesterol will return to a high level within a few weeks. It is possible for some people to stop statins like Roseday safely, but it can be especially risky for others.
But, your wife will not get any withdrawal symptoms. If your wife have a history of heart attack or stroke, it's not recommended that your wife stop taking these drugs. This is because you are more likely to have another such problem when your wife discontinue statins like Roseday. If your wife want to stop taking her Roseday, it is important to find another way to lower her cholesterol. Check her lipid profile and consult her doctor before stopping this medication.
