Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Most of the drugs utilized for the management of SLE are contraindicated during pregnancy.
During the first trimester, it is the critical period when most of the organ systems of the baby are taking shape.
Specifically , Azoran ( azathiopurine ) is a pregnancy category D drug as classified by the FDA.
Its use is associated with the incidence of congenital defects in the baby.
HCQ is also not a safe drug during pregnancy
Ideally, none of the medications used for SLE management should be continued in the first trimester.
Please consult your Rheumatologist to modify the drugs as per your pregnancy status.
Also, there is a definite risk to the baby as these drugs were consumed unintentionally
HOwever, if you stop the drugs right away, then you can go ahead with the pregnancy with the calculated risk in your mind.
With SLE, if you terminate this pregnancy, future conception maybe difficult.
Consult a Genetic counsellor / High Risk Fetal Medicine Expert and make an informed decision.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.
