Is It Safe To Take Lomotil And Imodium For Chronic Diarrhea Due To Pancreatitis?
I am a dietitian. I have a patient with chronic pancreatitis with a large volume diarrhea, high blood sugars on a tube feeding. There have been issues with tube feeding tolerance however pt is finally tolerating Peptamin Bariatric at goal rate. MD is concerned about large volume of liquid stool and has asked me several times to help with diarrhea problem. Current tube feeding is a very high protein, low CHO, low fat formula. Pt is on lomotil, imodium and Floranex as treatment for diarrhea

All above mentioned is to be done in diarrhea, there is one ayurvedic med known as triphala, no side effects. I have used in patients with similar effects shown good results! Treat the cause of pancreatitis it will relief, endoscopic biopsy is choice (breathing exercises like also helps in immune related causes).

Chronic diarrhea is seen in most of the cases of chronic pancreatitis. I recommend pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) to control diarrhea, reduce pain and helps to gain weight. Enzyme therapy helps your body absorb nutrients. please discuss the same with the treating physician.
