Is It Safe To Take Eplerenone While On Atenolol?

I am taking 12.5 mg atenolol, morning and night!! I am now going to start 6.25mg of eplerenon, starting at night! I am very sensitive to medications!! I am just getting over a bout with gout and been taking aleve!! Is it ok to start the eplerenon? It doesn t slow your heart down like the atenolol does, does it?

Eplerenone acts by a different mechanism to reduce the high BP, hence it can be combined with Atenolol. It does not slow the heart rate as seen with Atenolol. However, Aleve may interfere with the action of Eplerenone so you may request your treating doctor to review the prescribed medications.
