Is It Safe To Give Paracetamol Suppository To Treat Fever In Children?

Hi, my 2 month had his vaccinations today. He now has a fever but refuses to take the paracetamol drops we were prescribed. (1ml of 100mg/ml). Can I gives him a paracetamol suppository instead? (we have 125mg/ml suppositories, could I give him 3/4 of one?)

Hi
Thanks for posting your query.
I appreciate your concern for the two months old baby.

Yes you can give him Paracetamol suppository to reduce the raised body temperature.
It is quite safe and very effective if the baby is not able to swallow or having vomiting.
Make sure that your baby is not having loose motions.

The recommended dosage of Paracetamol for young children is 7.5 mg to 15 mg/Kg body weight dose every 6 hrs.

You can calculate the required dose as per his body weight and administer the suppository through the rectum.

Hope this answers your query.

A feed back is appreciated.
