Is It Safe To Chew Hard After Upper Jaw Surgery?

I got upper jaw surgery 6 weeks ago. In one week (exactly 7 weeks from my surgery date) I've been invited to go to Cedar Point Amusement Park. My doctor said I -should- be able to "chew on nails" after 6-7 weeks post-op, but I can currently barely chew a harder chocolate chip. Would is be safe for me to go to the amusement park? There are a lot of roller coasters at that park. My dad's worried about me biting too hard while on a ride (I have full power use of my lower jaw) or hitting the side of my face on a coaster. Is it safe?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain if after 6 weeks of surgery also you are unable to apply even a little pressure over the jaw then you should consult your treating surgeon for getting evaluated for the progress of the surgery..
Even then also you do not get any satisfactory answer you can take a second opinion by sending the scan copies of your x rays and other details to Healthcare Magic for a detailed discussion..

Other thing is that if you are unable to apply pressure and unable to chew a little bit of hard foods then there is a possibility that the healing is slow or delayed..
In case if you do any activity that can caused jerks over the jaw and can cause jerky movements than you should avoid such movements as it can cause further injury ad can cause pain and swelling..

Consult your surgeon and if everything seems fine he can advise you to wear a mouth guard before going for roller coaster ride and if not found well avoiding any jerky movement is a correct line of treatment..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
