Is It Normal To Masturbate If Unable To Have Sex With Partner?

Hi Dr. I have been married for 4yrs now and I am aged 32. We have a 2yr old boy. I cant remember the last time we had sex twice a week, but I would love to even 5 times a week. we have spoke about it a couple of times and I am sort of tired now. At times I would let her know that I want sex but she comes up with some excuses. I end up masturbating and I feel bad about it but I think its better than cheating. is it normal what I am doing?
