Is It Normal To Have Severe Pain In Throat Post Endoscopy?

I had an endoscopy today. They dilated my esophagus, found a bit of yeast, and what they expect to be eonosyphillic (?) esophagitis. So they took a couple of biopsies. Also there were 2 tears...probably due to the procedure. The throat and esophageal pain is. Well, a PAIN. I really can t even drink liquids because it hurts going down. I don t even want to swallow my saliva, so I am spitting it out. It also hurts to talk. Is.this normal? And should it get better the next day or so?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Upper gastrointestinal tract (GIT) endoscopy is associated with little discomfort and pain post procedure.
However, intense pain making swallowing difficult needs to be investigated.
Intense pain can be due to trauma or injury to mucosa in the pharynx.
If the procedure has been done few hours back, you can wait for some time for recovery but if a couple of days have passed then you need to consult your endoscopist for clinical assessment.

Thanks and take care
