Is It Normal To Have Darker Skin On The Healed Wounds?

Hello Dr. Grief, I have a question on healed wounds. I have had many cuts and minor gashes in my span of 20 years and have noticed that, when finally healed, there is a darker tan spot where the healed skin has taken over for the injury. Is that a normal occurrence? And is it a problem for it to get tattooed? I have recently had an injury involving a deep road-burn caused by falling off my skateboard at a high rate of speed. The injury is on my side tattoo and I actually have, what appears to be, and infected wound. The wound is so deep that the portion of skin that is hanging on (no more than half an inch) takes away some of my writing with it. I am currently trying to keep the skin attached as well as wash around the area with antibacterial soap and warm water. Thank you in advance. Very respectfully, James P.

Hello,

As per your case history, you have post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. My treatment advice is
1. Don't worry it is a physiological condition.
2. Apply a Kojic acid cream like Kojivit twice daily on it.
3. Take a vitamin b12 supplement once daily for three months. If the problem persists then consult a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
