Is It Due To Piriformis Syndrome There Is Deep Pain At The Center Of Buttock Region?

Well I feel good most of the time. However, I have a deep hurt in the right side of my buttock. I don t have shooting pains or back pain at all but it is one centered area when I am sitting. Occasionally it is harder to stand up if I have been sitting for an extended period of time. Do you think it is piriformis syndrome?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Welcome to HCM
This is Dr Amit.
Yes pain may be due to piriformis syndrome. It usually starts with pain, tingling, or numbness in the buttocks. Pain can be severe and extend down the length of the sciatic nerve (called sciatica). The pain is due to the piriformis muscle compressing the sciatic nerve, such as while sitting on a car seat or running
There is no definitive test for piriformis syndrome. In many cases, there is a history of trauma to the area, repetitive, vigorous activity such as long-distance running, or prolonged sitting. Diagnosis of piriformis syndrome is made by the patient’s report of symptoms and by physical exam using a variety of movements to elicit pain to the piriformis muscle.
You can take rest apply ice to relieve the pain. In severe pain you can also take anti inflammatory and muscle relaxants after talking advice from your doctor
Feel free to ask if you have any other doubts
