Is It Dangerous To Have Progesterone Oil Accidentally Injected Into Vein?

I am currently injecting progesterone oil as part of my FET medication. After I finished injecting the full dose, I pulled the needle out and a stream if blood ran out. A tiny spot of blood was also in the syringe. I m worried I accidently injected the vein. Is this dangerous and what can I do?

Hi,

The Progesterone oil is used in intramuscular injections. It is very important to follow instructions closely and if it is necessary to consult your health care provider (your doctor or nurse) which will teach you how to give the shot correctly in the future.

Yes, if an oil injection is given in the vein, it can produce oil embolism and this can be dangerous. But from your description, I would say that the needle passed through a vein on the way in or out and that's how that small amount of blood got in there. No worries.

Anyway, my advice is to discuss with your treating doctor the actual situation and how to give correctly intramuscular injections in the future.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
