Is inter menstrual vaginal bleeding a symptom of cervical cancer?

I am having bleeding in between periods and sometimes after sex. Symptoms have been in and off for 6 years. I have been off birth control for 1.5 years and have no STIs and a normal pap smear in Nov 2017. I have mild pain in thighs and lower back and pelvic region but not anything severe. Do you think it could be cervical cancer? Even with a normal pap? Ive always had normal ones. My pcp is reluctant to do further testing and thinks im a hypochondriac.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If your PAP test is normal, then the possibility is minimal. For confirming the condition you are experiencing, you should get other tests like vaginal ultrasound done and you have to confirm if these symptoms are due to the side effects of birth control pills as well.

My period has come and gone 3 times in 3 weeks. The flow has been light but has changed from normal flow and color to brown to light red. In addition, I have felt I had 2 yeast infections in 2 months, which I used one day miconazole treatment each time. What might be causing these symptoms? I ve been married 28 years with a single sex partner and am 50 years age.

Hi, what would cause bleeding similar to a period? It started two years after menopause. I had a D&C and everything was normal. I also get some of the PMS symptoms that I used to have just before and the first day or two of my period. I m thinking of getting a hysterectomy -- what do you think? Thanks, Laurie

I am experiencing a bit of abnormal bleeding. I am not sure if it is my birth control causing it or if something is going on. I have had my period 3 times in one month which has never happened before (in my 3 years of getting the birth control shot). Also, my actual periods, the ones I keep track of that I get once every three months, have been getting longer.. They last about 2 weeks. When I spot/bleed in between scheduled periods it is normally heavier and clotting. I normally start to spot about one or two days after having intercourse more than normal with my boyfriend. During these spottings I get the same symptoms that I would if i were on my period. The cramping, cravings, and breaking out. I also sometimes feel pulsing in my right ovary, almost like a heart beat or twitching.
