Is Hydrogen Peroxide Effective In Treatment Of Finger Nail Infection?

I hit and bent back the finger nail next to my thumb. This happened about 2 weeks ago. A blue spot, like a bruise appeared on the nail. About three days ago a foul odor and a clear liquid started coming from the nail. If I soak it in hydrogen peroxide, will this help? Thank-you

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have got an infection in the skin at the side of nail post trauma and the foul smell and discharge seems to be pus and is caused due to infection..

Soaking in hydrogen peroxide will alone not relieve the symptoms and you need to consult a General Physician and get evaluated..

He can do a thorough clinical examination and also advise you investigation like pus culture for confirmation of the cause of infection...
You can be advised to clean the area with antiseptic solution and also apply a combination of antibiotic and steroid ointment over it..
You can also be advised to take a course of oral antibiotics and anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Keep the area clean and dry and avoid further injury to it..
Dip the finger in epson salt solution..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
