My friend s 90 yr old dad lives with her & she is caring for him. Dad is visually impaired and can see very little; he is taking Rx for high blood pressure, & exhibits dementia periodically . Daughter, 65yr old, is somewhat visually impaired, one eye has detached retina, other eye has fair visibility. They had lived in their previous residence over 15 yrs. Dad could make his way to & from his room down a hallway to the bathroom and back unassisted. In current residence, Dad is slowly learning the path to & from his room and bathroom. Since moving, over past couple of months Dad has had more frequent bathroom visits, like every 2hrs, and calls out for Daughter to help guide or give verbal clues for him to find bathroom. At night the bathroom light is left on for him to walk toward the light and that has enabled him to find bathroom without calling for Daughter us assistance. Though encouraged to drink more liquid, Dad is consuming less than 16oz of water a day. Dad s appetite is dwindling a little. Dad also complained of stomach aches and unable to have bowel movement (doesn t like vegetables). Daughter has been unable to get solid nights restful sleep as Dad has begun to call for her help every couple of hours during the night whenever he needs to use bathroom. Concerns: 1. Why the increased bathroom visits when drinking so little liquid. 2. Could a bladder or urinary tract infection cause frequent bathroom visits. 3. Should the color of the urine periodically be monitored. 4. Is there a medication to help Dad sleep through the night and/or reduce need to visit bathroom during nighttime.
