Is Eating Chalk Hazardous To Health?

I am 23 and I have been eating chalk on and off for like five years. I usually don't sallow it I just chew it up then spit it out. Lately it's like the only time I crave it is when I am getting ready to start my period. My question is, is eating chalk harmful, will it affect my ability to have kids, and is there a reason behind me wanting it before I start my period or is it a mind thing?
