Is Doctor Consultation Advisable For Chronic Cough?

I have been coughing up alot of phlem lately, I also experience massive severe pain when I cough or sneeze in my lower pelvic region. It is bringing me to tears anytime I cough or sneeze. Do I need to be checked out? I am lost as to what it can be or be from.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You should definitely get yourself checked as you are suffering from upper respiratory tract infection. If you are coughing phlegm most likely it is a bacterial infection, and you will be required to take an antibiotic course. The pain you are experiencing in your pelvic region is because of the continuous coughing.

You should also take an antihistamine like levocetrizine to control your sneezing. Your physician may also advise you to get a chest x-ray done depending upon your physical and auscultatory findings. Meanwhile, you should start taking steam inhalation and betadine gargles which will give you some relief from the coughing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
 Dr. Nazma.amman
