Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can probiotics change the color and smell on your stool? I have been passing clay colored stool for the pass few weeks and also started taking probiotics with I that time to see if that help. Is it something of concern or should I up my fiber intake?
Passing clay-colored stools are not normal. If your stools are pale or clay-colored, you may have a problem with the drainage of your biliary system, which is comprised of your gallbladder, liver, and pancreas.
Intake of probiotics would not cause such a change in the color of stools. Bile salt deficiency could be the reason with passage of such stools, primarily with problem associated with organs namely gall bladder, liver or pancreas.
Kindly take an ultrasound scan of the abdomen and consult Physician with the report for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
